During the weekend of the 7th of June, students from Welbourne Primary School, Trinity Road Primary School, Star Primary School, Julian’s Primary School, Goldsworth Primary School, Five Elms Primary School, and Holme Grange School headed to the PGL Centre to spend some time with old and new faces as they challenged themselves to go Into the Wild!
The weekend was packed with different activities that brought the students to face their fears, challenge themselves, develop new skills, and earn lots of stars! There were great opportunities for teamwork as well as communication and leadership skill development. The students had an amazing time, smiling, laughing, and getting to know not only each other, but themselves as well.
Friday afternoon began with an exciting game of Wacky Races! Students were challenged to perform different tasks, including building the tallest tower out of their shoes. It was great to see them put their heads together and figure out the best way to keep their shoe towers standing.
Saturday brought on great communication and teamwork as the students worked together in Raft Building and in Climbing! The trend continued as students encouraged each other to reach the top of Jacob's Ladder and fly down the Zipwire. Other students truly got Into The Wild during the Survivor activity in which they built shelters and started fires or in the Problem Solving Challenge where the groups worked together to figure out riddles and other games, like Crossing the River!
The weekend rounded off well on Sunday with the Showcase allowing the students to express themselves as a group and reflect on the weekend! The Showcase engaged all of the Yes Futures talents: Confidence, Resilience, Self Awareness, and Communication. The students seemed to leave the weekend with a sense of pride having gone Into the Wild!
