My Time as an Intern at Yes Futures

Written by Amanda Perkins

My role as an Intern at Yes Futures gave me the chance to fully immerse myself in the world of charity work while gaining valuable experience. Choosing to intern in London was a decision I knew would lead to personal and professional growth, but I never anticipated how quickly I would adapt. This smooth transition was largely thanks to having such supportive colleagues who made me feel welcome despite being an American in London.

Over the past eight weeks, my confidence has grown as I have tackled a variety of tasks. From social media and assisting with programmes to data entry and document updates. Each responsibility has contributed to my growth, shaping me into a more skilled and confident person. When it came to assisting with programmes, it gave me a closer look at our work's direct impact on young people, making me realise how important our programmes are.

This internship also sharpened my professional skills, particularly in communication and time management. Juggling multiple tasks taught me to prioritise effectively, and working in a team-oriented environment improved my ability to collaborate and communicate clearly. These are skills that I know will be beneficial in my future career.

Reflecting on my time here at Yes Futures, I realise how much I have grown. The skills I have developed and the experiences I have had in London have not only prepared me for the next step in my career but have shown me how rewarding working for a non-profit is. I am excited to take these lessons forward as I continue to grow both personally and professionally.

If you’re considering an internship at Yes Futures, you’re in for an incredibly rewarding experience. A few pieces of advice I would give is first, don’t hesitate to step up and volunteer for different tasks and projects. Being proactive will help you learn and allow you to make a meaningful contribution. The second piece of advice would be to always approach a task with enthusiasm.

No matter what type of task you are doing, even how minor it may seem, it contributes to Yes Futures’ mission. My third piece of advice would be to stay open-minded and adaptable. Embrace the different tasks and the new challenges you may face. Lastly, make sure you enjoy yourself! Interning at Yes Futures is a unique opportunity to grow both personally and professionally. By approaching your internship with these tips in mind, you’ll not only gain valuable skills and experience but also contribute to a meaningful cause.
